After Your Video Consultation: 72-Hour Skincare Next Steps (Consultation Services)
By Glenn Emery Skincare | July 15, 2026
Downtown Martinez, CA

If you have sensitive skin, you already know the safest move is to go slow, and one of our video consult clients felt better after we did a quick demo on their hand first and saw no reaction. Here’s the #1 rule for the next 72 hours: follow the written plan we sent you and introduce changes one at a time. Confirm prescriptions or products, patch test anything new, protect your skin from Martinez sun, and reach out fast if something feels truly off.
The first 24–48 hours: patch test first, then start simple
Your video consultation is short on purpose. In about 15 minutes, we get clear on what your skin is doing right now, what you’ve tried, and what we’re changing first. The next day or two is where people accidentally overdo it, especially when they’re excited to fix breakouts, texture, or uneven tone.
Do this first: Patch test any new product on a small area (inner arm is great) and wait 24–48 hours before you put it all over your face.
After the patch test, keep your routine calm. Cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. If we recommended an active, introduce one new active at a time and leave a 48–72 hour gap before adding another. That gap is how you figure out what’s helping, and what’s causing irritation.
And if you’re starting something that can make you more sun-sensitive, treat the next few days like a mini “sun reset.” Downtown Martinez is gorgeous, but that Mediterranean summer pattern is real: a brief morning marine layer, then strong afternoon sun near the waterfront. SPF 30+ every morning, and avoid long outdoor stretches for the first 72 hours while your skin adjusts.
Stop and message us if you get strong burning, intense itching, or swelling. Mild dryness or a little tingle can happen with actives, but severe irritation is a no.
Days 3–7: keep progress, skip peels and “extra credit” skincare
If you’re feeling good by day 3, that’s when people get tempted to stack products, add a scrub, book a peel, or hit a sauna to “speed it up.” Don’t. The first week is about letting your barrier settle so your results stick.
- Avoid professional treatments for one week after you start new actives we discussed. Hold off on peels and laser appointments during that window.
- Don’t pick or “polish” dry patches. Keep moisturizing and let it pass.
- Keep your sunscreen steady. Daily SPF 30+ is non-negotiable, even if you’re just running errands in the Main Street historic district.
- Keep it predictable. Consistency is what gets you that “my skin felt healthier, lighter, and more nourished” feeling clients talk about after they stick with a plan.
If you’re acne-prone or easily irritated, this week matters even more. We see a lot of improvement when people keep the routine simple and give the skin a chance to respond.
A routine that protects results: cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, then actives
The goal after online consulting is clarity. You should know what goes on your face, when it goes on, and what problem it’s solving. When people tell us our products “work wonderfully” for sensitive skin or that their skin “feels clean and radiates, ” it’s usually because they stopped product-hopping and got consistent.
Our simple order (morning and night)
- Gentle cleanse
- Moisturizer (barrier first)
- Actives only on the schedule we laid out, one at a time
- Morning always ends with SPF 30+
If you’re adding an active at night, keep mornings extra gentle for that first week. Your skin doesn’t need a dozen steps. It needs the right steps, done consistently.
Exercise, sauna, and swimming after a video consult: what we usually recommend
A video consultation doesn’t put your skin through a procedure that day, but the plan you start might. If we recommended photosensitizing products or stronger actives, heat and sun can make irritation show up faster.
We generally recommend keeping workouts light for the first 24–48 hours after starting a new active. Heavy sweating, sauna, or hot yoga can sting if your barrier is adjusting. Swimming is similar. Chlorine and saltwater can be drying, and waterfront time in Martinez often turns into more sun than you planned once the afternoon clears.
If you do work out: rinse sweat promptly, cleanse gently, moisturize, and keep sunscreen on board the next day.
When to reach out, and when an in-person follow-up makes sense in Martinez
We’re big on communication. People tell us they felt at ease because we explain what we’re doing and answer questions directly, and we keep that same energy after your consult.
“Your skin is glowing! What are you doing to it?”
one of our regulars
Reach out right away if you notice severe redness, swelling, blistering, or any breathing difficulty. If it feels urgent, seek urgent care. If it’s more like, “Is this dryness normal?” message us and we’ll help you adjust.
If you want eyes-on help, we can talk about an in-person follow-up after you’ve had a little time with your new routine. Downtown Martinez is easy to get to, and a lot of our follow-ups fit nicely before or after commuting via I-680 or near the Amtrak station. We also see plenty of people coming in from Pleasant Hill, Concord, Pacheco, Benicia, Port Costa, and Walnut Creek.
Quick reminder about your Video Consultation
Your 15-minute Video Consultation is $25, and the cost goes toward your total if you book a treatment. Reply to your booking confirmation email with your preferred platform, Zoom, Google Meet, or Instagram, and we’ll send the link for your scheduled time.

Need help adjusting your plan in the next 72 hours?
We’ll keep it simple and specific. Tell us what you started, when you started it, and what you’re noticing. That’s usually all we need to get you back on track.
